Kevin Young graduated from the University of Westminster with a BSc (Hons) TCM: Acupuncture and a Diploma in Tui-na. He is a State Registered and Chartered Physiotherapist (MCSP), qualified in sports therapy and sports massage, specialising in the treatment of sports injuries with Acupuncture. Additionally, he also has an MSc in Lower Limb Musculo-Skeletal Studies from Cardiff Met University.
Kevin works with sports teams, 20 years in rugby and more recently with professional boxers and practitioners of various martial arts (MMA). He is currently the principal physiotherapist for the charity Arthritis Action.
Kevin lectures at CICM Reading Traditional Acupuncture college (BSc program) in anatomy, structural diagnosis and tui-na. He also lectures on Sports Taping and Sports Acupuncture on a Master’s program at Cardiff
Met University. Additionally, he lectures at Glyndwr University, Wrexham on Tui Na, Lower Limb and running Mechanics. He has a special interest in lower-limb injuries, and treating tendinopathies with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Acupuncture & the Managment of Sports Injuries

In this presentation, Kevin will discuss current acupuncture treatments of Sports & tendon injury, including an introduction to treatment principles and techniques. Kevin will discuss the use of acupuncture with Sports injuries. How he has used acupuncture as an extra tool for treating injuries within Rugby, Professional boxing and Mixed Martial Arts as well as many other sports. Discuss the recent relevant research for and against the use of acupuncture. We will explore and discuss different needling techniques and treatment principles used with various injuries.

Kevin has worked extensively in sports medicine for 20 years, and, like many therapists, battled in the search to find successful ways to deal with sports & tendon injuries, whether acute, chronic or ruptured. Studying acupuncture opened up new concepts and understanding of Sports Injury and tendon injuries for him. Using a fusion of Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment principles, he now relishes every opportunity to bring to bear his combined skills in the treatment of Sports Injuries and tendinopathies.
