International Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA)
The International Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA) is the Professional Body for Aromatherapists. The IFA were the first established Governing Body in Clinical and Holistic Aromatherapy in 1985. Our Charities purpose is the preservation of health and wellbeing by advancing the knowledge, practice of, and expertise in Aromatherapy by education, teaching and training.
At the very first meeting held in 1984 a small group met to decide on the educational values that would project Aromatherapy into the public eye. During those heady first years, the IFA took on the role of champion for its member`s by contacting local media and institutions who were unaware of the therapeutic values of essential oils combined with massage. We have pioneered the use of Aromatherapy in the NHS, hospitals, hospices and special care units, which is why we have therapists working in this sector today. As the first Aromatherapy professional body we understand the needs of our therapists and recognise the challenges, education, research and development requirements of our members, which allows us to deliver a specialist service to them. We are proud to hold our charitable status as we believe it ensures integrity in all our projects and we also honour this status by supporting other charities.
We regulate and accredit standards in Aromatherapy for both the practitioner and the course provider. We assist our members to gain the highest standard of integrity, knowledge and professionalism to protect their clients, the public and the profession. Members enjoy a wide range of benefits to support their practice and keep informed of the latest changes and developments in the field. We offer specialised diploma courses in Aromatherapy and Essential Oils to enable students to gain globally recognised qualifications through our list of registered course providers. We assist course providers to attain the Federations kite mark of professionalism and offer innovative courses to teach.
